Public School - Women's & Men's Autumn/Winter 2017-18 collection in New York (with interview)

Designers : Dao-Yi Chow & Maxwell OsbourneAmbiance : return to the Public School label after a year of absence from the catwalks and after having left the artistic direction of DKNY.Intimate show, also tending towards the political discourse by subverting the slogan on Donald Trump’s red caps : “Make America, New York”.Silhouette : the streetwear inspiration stays at the heart of the collection. The duo add shirts worn as dresses, mini bomber jackets, with details like wings on the tops, zips on the dresses and straps on the suit. Functionality is at the heart of the subject just like the worked materials. The nylon & shearling blousons, the Prince of Wales coats, the paisley prints and the corduroy velvet celebrate their great return. To note : The “Michael Jordan” sweat pants, as a hero, as an example, with inscriptions on the back such as “we need leaders”. Interviews Dao-Yi Chow :We are pushing ourselves to get a little bit lighter, more skin on the women’s side, a new femininityMore contrast I think, it’s not just about big and small, volume and skin, there’s always a contrast. Maxwell Osbourne : There’s this Americano feel that we wanted to make new and instead of taking it from the old we wanted to make it new, so we used corduroy and other raw fabrics.
