Derek Lam -Womenswear Autumn/Winter 2015/16 in New York with interview

A mastered elegance, a savoir-faire and an unrivalled style. At Derek Lam all in question is choice, allure and the outfit. Leather and suede remain the favourite materials of the designer that we find in tones of brown and shiny camel revolved around a skirt or a shirt knotted like a kimono. The cardigan comes back looser and more enveloping, transformed into a jacket or into a coat. The trench-coat dominates with a huge collar, and you can choose with or without sleeves. The high-waisted trousers are worn simply either in a loose version, or either in a longline version, high waisted, and with pockets on the front. It’s all about reinterpreted essentials but in a chic and timeless way. To note: the black trench in shiny leather without sleeves or the different propositions of jumpers in rounded shapes.Interview: Derek Lam: Well, it started with the idea that I wanted to do something very New England, something that was very much New York and New England these kind of warm wools, and tweeds and Shetlands, and so kind of investigating that - a real Autumn palette with browns and burn oranges and in suede and leather, so all these kind of wonderful textures. The tailoring kind of makes the slightly oversized relaxed have a certain urban urgency. It’s this idea of “future now” it’s kind of taking little bits from the past and re-proposing them to create something new so there’s a sense of familiarity and a sense of comfort in that familiarity, but also you know you’re looking at a new world and a new idea.Music from the show
